Potters March 2019

Long Weekend at Potters Resort

Friday March 29th 2019

More than seventy intrepid Hadara members set out on the brand new luxury double decker coach for Potters Holiday Resort on the Suffolk/Norfolk border. We arrived in good time to settle into our accommodation and enjoy the beautiful weather and bracing sea air.

On Saturday morning we toured Norwich on the coach as the city is now prioritising pedestrians and cyclists. Our guide told us there is a church in Norwich for every week of the year and a pub for every day of the year!!  Some of the photos show these.

We saw the castle at a distance. It is now a museum. Then we stopped at the magnificent cathedral and were able to spend time touring inside, looking at ‘Budge’ the cat – so called as he did not like to be disturbed – or exploring the nearby shops. We had time to enjoy the packed lunch given to us by Potters (far more than we could eat in one go) before returning to Potters, More beautiful sunshine and a chance to walk off the lunch.

The font, pictured, was originally used to make chocolate in Norwich and when the factory closed it was donated to the cathedral to be used as their font.

These photos show a few of our members arriving at the cathedral and then on the Norfolk Broads Mississippi river boat trip.

Another view of boats on the broads, the chalets, the beach and sea in the Resort.

The shows were spectacular and we counted at least 18 costume changes by the dancers each night.

At the end of the Saturday evening show (’round the world’ finale) the cast dressed as Pearly Kings & Queens finishing with Last Night of the Proms and lots of flag waving by the audience.

Monday evening’s show was Frankie’s Guys, a Jersey Boys tribute act. They had everyone dancing in front of the stage and in the aisles.

These are the final few photos of the entertainment shows.

With so many people dancing it is difficult to spot our members, but some are there, amongst the crowd.

To sum it all up…..

The food was delicious, with lots of choices and Potters could not do enough for those with food allergies, etc. The entertainment was a bit like watching a West End show every evening. And on Friday night after the show finished, four of the cast came back on stage to sing and dance for a further hour for everyone to dance to.

Those that took part in the bingo were thrilled to see one of our members win the top prize.

Jim really must be thanked for organising such a brilliant break. It all went so efficiently. The coach driver, Colin, was excellent too. We don’t know how he negotiated all those low tunnels, roundabouts and left turns with such a huge beast. But it was a smooth ride all the time and he was really helpful with the luggage and notices.

Well done to everyone involved in the arrangements.
